EMPOWERMENT SHAREHOLDERS

  • The National Movement of Rural Women (National)

    The National Movement of Rural Women is a Section 21 company under the name, “The National Movement for Rural Women (Proprietary) Limited”.  It is a movement that seeks to address the needs of rural women by providing educational opportunities on gender issues and encouraging them to participate actively and in socio-economic activities so that they can be independent and participate fully in society.

  • Workers Investment Corporation (Pty) Ltd (National)

    WIC was formed to make investments designed specifically to benefit individual worker members.  Its purpose is to focus on share investments that are becoming available as a result of various recent BEE initiatives.  The objective of education, stake ownership and joint control guide the investment philosophy of WIC.

  • Itumeleng Investments cc (Gauteng)

    Itumeleng comprises a group of women in the East Rand covering the towns of Daveyton, Wattville (Benoni) and Kwa-Thema (Springs), with plans to extend to other areas in the East Rand.  Itumeleng’s main activities have, in the past, been concentrated on social upliftment issues and assistance to the disabled.

  • Akhona Trade and Investments (Pty) Ltd (KwaZulu-Natal / Free State)

    Akhona was established in 1996 as a grassroots organisation to harness the savings of women’s groups in Kwa-Zulu Natal.  The company represents approximately 3,000 women with a profile that includes 30 groupings. 

    Akhona’s investment philosophy is to build capital by careful investment in unit trusts, while keeping cash available to invest in opportunities as and when they present themselves.

  • Mmathari cc (Gauteng)

    Mmathari was formed by ten women with the objectives of providing small loans to community members as well as taking part in other investment opportunities and forming strategic partnerships with progressive groupings.

  • Katekani (Pty) Ltd (Gauteng)

    Katekani was formed by a group of ten women with a vision to create an organisation which would continuously grow through the creation of value for its shareholders and which contributes as a world-class business, to the country’s economic growth. 

    The group aims to promote social consciousness through sound business practices and to contribute towards the creation of a spirit of entrepreneurship in disadvantaged communities and economic empowerment at all levels with a specific focus on women, youth, the aged and disabled.

  • Muthande Society for the Aged (National)

    Muthande is a community-based organisation founded by a group of community health nurses and educators. 

    The objective of Muthande is to develop community resources to assist and empower elderly people to live independent lives for as long as possible.

  • Umanyano Lwentandazo Lwamanina (National)

    Umanyamo is a Christian group that advocates the full participation of women within the governing structure of their church.  Its aim is to develop and nurture the Christian faith within the community, identify worthy projects within the church and lend material support to these projects, thus creating employment and income for the community.

  • Sequoia Investments cc (Gauteng)

    Sequoia is an organisation based in Soweto, formed for the sole purpose of providing healthy meals for the surrounding disadvantaged community and thus providing employment.

  • Umvutho Oil (Pty) Ltd (KwaZulu-Natal)

    Umvutho is a women’s company based in the Pietermaritzburg area – KZN, established in 2001 to focus in the oil and energy sector. Umvutho activities include voluntary community services within the area of HIV-AIDS and community development.
